Easter Sunday

April 9, 2023

Today we celebrate the glorious Solemnity of the Lord’s Resurrection. After forty days of repentance, prayer, sacrifice, and almsgiving, and a moving Holy Week recalling the Passion and Death of Christ, we gather today at the empty tomb, peering inside with Peter and John, the beloved disciple, to see the burial cloths. When John went in after Peter and saw the empty tomb, John the Evangelist records, “He saw and believed.” We come to our beautiful Church today to renew our belief that the Cross was not the final word. On Easter Day we celebrate with joyful Alleluias! “Christ is risen. He is risen indeed, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.” We renew our Baptismal Promises today and rededicate our lives to being faithful disciples. For the next fifty days we join the Church throughout the world in sharing the Good News. As Jesus was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too have the hope of life eternal, when Jesus will raise our mortal bodies to like His own in glory. Gone is sadness. This is the feast of victory for our God, Alleluia. Throughout the Easter season we will be singing many Alleluias and witnessing the Lord alive and living in our midst just as He was throughout the days after His Resurrection, appearing to His disciples and revealing Himself. Let us rejoice today and all days. “Jesus is Risen, Alleluia!”

A big Thank You to all who helped with the liturgies of Holy Week, our ushers, lectors, servers, and our organist. It was a truly Holy Week where the music was moving and helped us pray the most important services of the year. Thank you to our women who helped decorate the Church for Easter. And a special thank you to all who donated to our Easter Flower Fund this year, providing us this beauty of an Easter Garden. St. Luke the Evangelist Church is truly blessed by the love and generosity of so many. Thank You one and all.

On behalf of the parish staff, Deacon Dave, and myself, a very Blessed Easter to All.

Please note that beginning on Easter Monday, we will be returning to our pre-Lent Mass Schedule with masses Tuesday through Friday at 8:00am.

God Bless! Happy Easter!

Please continue praying 3 Hail Marys. Fr. Pete
