Fr. John-Paul Hopping was born to George & Mary Hopping in California on a warm August day. His Father, a World War II veteran, settled in the Mesa region of Santa Barbara and raised a family of 2 boys and 5 girls. After the war, George taught Spanish and French. It was then that Father Hopping began learning Spanish in middle school and then also in high school. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from California State College, Fullerton. While in college, he worked at Disneyland and then after graduation, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Orange County, CA, in the accounting department. Deciding to explore the more spiritual side of life, he attended St. John Seminary in Camarillo, California, a suggestion of his parish priest. He received his Master’s degree in Divinity in the summer of 1985, and was ordained that same year as a priest, in the Diocese of Orange. It was the invitation of Archbishop Burke that Fr. John-Paul came to be Incardinated, by Archbishop Robert Carlson, into the Archdiocese of St. Louis in 2006. His first assignment was at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Saint Charles. He was then appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Ferguson in June of 2009. And now as Pastor of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish in Richmond Heights and Sacramental Minister of Immaculate Conception Parish in Maplewood in 2015. His passion is to bring more people to Christ and enlarge the faith life of those who already know Jesus. Soli Deo Gloria!
